The Harkin Institute of Public Policy

The Harkin Institute of Public Policy is an academic unit within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University. The institute will serve as the catalyst for interdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach on vital public policy issues. It will support the education of Iowa State students and Iowa citizens in addition to research by Iowa State faculty members and other scholars.

The institute is named for United States Senator Tom Harkin, a 1962 Iowa State alumnus who has served more than 35 years in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. The institute will house Senator Harkin's papers. The Iowa Board of Regents approved establishment of the institute in April 2011.
